Alex’s Fund for Community, Connection, and Belonging

Alex dedicated her life to helping others find stability, dignity, and a place to belong. While training as a social worker, she focused on supporting people rebuilding their lives after homelessness — individuals who often face isolation, stigma, and the difficult transition back into community after long periods on the margins. This fund was created in Alex’s memory and your gift today helps carry forward the work she cared about most.

Through Pathways to Housing DC, the fund will support recently housed individuals with resources, support groups, peer connections, and opportunities for community involvement and leadership. These efforts reflect Alex’s belief that housing is only the beginning — and that true stability comes from connection, purpose, and belonging.

With your support, individuals can move beyond housing toward community, independence, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Pathways’ commitment to supporting people as they move from homelessness toward community and independence closely reflects the values that guided Alex’s work and aspirations in the field. You are helping to continue Alex’s compassion and commitment, ensuring others can find the same sense of belonging she worked so hard to create.

One of my favorite memories of Alex over the past few years was going to a Backstreet Boys concert with her. She grew up obsessed with Nick Carter, and I spent most of my childhood listening to their music blasted. It was such a fun experience and there is video out there of us belting “Tell me whyyyyy” at the top of our lungs. I think of her every time I hear their music.

Alex was my first born and ready for her 3 days a week of pre-k at age 2. I pulled up to St Mary’s in Briarcliff Manor, parked the car and got out. I let her out of her car seat and we started to walk toward the front door. Alex stopped, looked at me, and said “Where are you going?” “With you” was my obvious reply. She looked horrified. I explained how I was her mom and this was a new experience for me too. And I was invited to come in and meet the other moms. Her response: “Okay, but I’m here to make friends so please don’t bother me!” 😂😂😂 And she did. ❤️❤️❤️

I met Alex right after college graduation and had the pleasure of working with her for a short period. She was bright, ambitious and lit up every room that she entered. She easily connected with both colleagues and clients. I am not surprised to hear that she was studying and training for a career in social work, as her nurturing disposition was evident in every interaction with others (including animals!). I am honored to support this fund which will continue the work that she was committed to and so passionate about.

Alex was my god daughter and such a beautiful, loving, sweetheart.. I have all these wonderful memories of her. She was smart, inquisitive, loved dressing up. Her mother was so great with styling her hair. She was just a beautiful soul.
